William "Bill" Jeffrey West, 62, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Portland, Oregon from complications of Covid-19. He was surrounded by his family.
Bill was born July 14, 1958 to Bill and Olga West in San Bernadino, California. As a child from a large Guatemalan family, he spent the summers of his youth exploring Guatemala City with his siblings and cousins and would often reminisce of family moments, celebrations, and everything he learned about his Guatemalan roots during those summers. Bill was fluent in Spanish and took all opportunities to enjoy any style of Mexican food and beverage.
Bill attended Aquinas Catholic High School in San Bernadino, California and graduated in 1976. He was a thespian and was proud of the fact that he learned to pantomime. During high school he also learned guitar, automotive, carpentry, and wood working. As a teenager, Bill and his father would spend many hours rebuilding dune buggies and riding them at different locations in the area they lived.
After graduation, his immediate family moved to Boulder Creek, California where Bill was a firefighter. He decided to change his scenery and relocated to Southern Oregon in 1984, eventually moving to the Portland metro area in 1986 where he called the Oregon City/Milwaukie area home.
Bill was a kind and loving man who enjoyed laughter, cherished his time with family and friends, and always had time to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Bill's hobbies included camping, hiking, wine tasting, BBQ'ing, computer technology, music, dancing, and sharing story-time with his grand-daughter.
Bill is survived by his wife, Helen Louise Carey West; step-daughters, Ellen Kimberley and Morgan and Maria Krueger; son and daughter-in-law, Branden and Anne West; step-grandchild, Kennedy Andrews; parents, Bill and Olga West; sister and brother-in-law, Frank and Peggy (Margaret West) Hutchinson; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Susan West; as well as a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the residence of Bill and Helen West on July 10, 2021 at 18310 SE Abernethy Lane, Apt A Milwaukie, Oregon 97267 between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Bill will be laid-to-rest in Seaside, Oregon.
