William Harris Welker

February 15, 1935 — September 20, 2017

William (Bill) Harris Welker, 82, passed away on September 20, 2017 in Clackamas, Oregon. Bill was born on February 15, 1935 in Portland, Oregon to Melvin and Rebecca Welker.

Bill grew up in Portland and attended Franklin High School. After high school, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. His time there was interrupted by a two-year stint in the Army where he was a high-speed radio operator. He did return to BYU for a time, but finished his bachelor's degree at Portland State University. Truth be told though, in his heart he was a BYU cougar. Bill spent most of his career in the transportation field, purchasing, selling, and heading a transportation group. He retired from Stewart Styles Truck Line in 2004.

Bill married Sunita in 1959 in the bride's backyard in Portland, Oregon. They were later sealed for eternity in the LDS Oakland Temple in 1965. They were happily married for 58 years. Bill was a lifelong supporter of The Boy Scouts and sang for a time in The Portland Chorale. He enjoyed learning, geography, reading, camping, his dogs, singing, playing games with his family, and deep discussions.

Bill is remembered with love by his spouse, Sunita of Oregon City, OR; his children, Diana (Mike) Daschel of The Dalles, OR, Linda (Scott) Swenson of Fruit Heights, Utah, Sunny Welker of Oregon City, and David Welker of Oregon City;  his sister, Phoebe Merrill of Maricopa, AZ; his grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Daschel, Jeff Daschel, Heather (Jason) Walters, Darci (Spencer) Davis, Erin (Luke) Minhondo, Beau Swenson, Logan Swenson, and Lindsi Swenson; his great-grandchildren, Caroline Daschel, Allie Kate Daschel, Callie Walters, Layne Walters, Lexie Davis, and Matt Davis; his nieces and nephews; other relatives; and all the neighborhood kids who called him Dad.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Rebecca Welker and his sister, Louise Axton.
