William John Shindler

February 27, 1931 — November 3, 2019

Bill was born to Leo R. Shindler and Mary Barbara Miller; 2 prominent Milwaukie, Oregon families. The youngest of 4 children he was named for his grandfather Balthasar William Shindler, who was the first mayor of Milwaukie. He attended Bellermine Prep in San Jose, California; then Santa Clara and Seattle Universities. It was at Seattle University where he met Therese C. McKee. They were married in August of 1952 and together they had 5 sons; Ralph, Bill, John, Tom, and Mark. He started his career in the Steel Industry in 1952 with Bethlehem Steel in Seattle. He moved his family to the East Bay in 1962 to continue working as a draftsman for Bethlehem in Alameda until they closed that division in 1968. He then worked for Dublin Steel as a Structural Engineer until 1972 when he went to work for PacCar back in Seattle. In 1973 he returned to California where he went to work for Herrick Steel until his retirement as the \u0026quot;Chief \u0026quot; in 1997. After the death of his wife Therese in 1993; he remained in California until a chance meeting with his cousin\u0027s widow, Charla Riedl, back in Milwaukie. They were married in March of 1998 and made their home in Milwaukie until his death. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Charla, his 5 sons, his 2 step-sons Dennis and Bruce Riedl, his stepdaughter Candace Tuomikoski, 8 grandchildren Jared, Chris,Jamie, \u0026nbsp;Sabrina, Danielle, William, Jason, and Nikki. And 6 great grandchildren Jayden, Maverick, James, Caleb, Sloane, and Xena.
