Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at a local hospital. She was recovering from hip surgery and her "little weak" body just gave out. She was surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter. Her passing was very peaceful for all.
Virginia was born in Vian, Oklahoma to Charlie and Velma Walker. At the age of 18, she moved to South Dakota for a few months to be with her former husband while he was in the service. The marriage didn't last, so she moved back to her family home in Oklahoma. Approximately a year later Virginia moved with her family to Vancouver, Washington for her dad to work at the shipyards. She went to work at Fred Meyer in downtown Portland. That is where she met Donald Schwartz, the truck driver who delivered to that store. They married September 21, 1946, and moved into their home on Roethe Road in Milwaukie. They lived there until 1975 when they moved to their home on Sandra Avenue, where they continued to reside until each of their passing.
During their life together Virginia and Don enjoyed camping, fishing at East Lake and Diamond Lake, trips with the RV club and to Reno. Virginia took pleasure in making all holidays special for her family. Unfortunately, things slowed down in later years due to health issues. They still managed to find fun and enjoyment in family and friends.
Virginia will be missed dearly by her daughter, Karen; granddaughter, Jennifer; great-grandson, Logan; sister, Lyne Whorton and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Don; and her sister, Betty Maly. She will be remembered for her great cooking, love of playing cards and bright mind and memory.
The hardest part wasn't loosing you, it will be learning to live without you. In our minds and hearts you're always near.
