She was the beloved daughter of Polish and Lithuanian immigrants, Robert and Nellie Michalski. Virginia's legacy is enriched by the love she shared with her family, her community, and her dedication to service.
In February of 1954, Virginia wed Donald A. Sanderson, and together they built a life filled with cherished memories. After their marriage, the couple moved to South Bend, Indiana, where Virginia devoted herself to raising their family. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering commitment to her family were evident in everything she did.
In her later years, Virginia and Donald retired to Florida, a new chapter that offered them the warmth of sun and tranquility. The call of family brought Virginia to Milwaukie, Oregon, in 2006, where she continued to actively engage in her community. Her passion for helping others led her to volunteer at the Milwaukie Friends of the Library. Virginia greatly contributed to supporting local book sales and the annual Christmas sale, embodying the spirit of giving and community connection.
Virginia was a loving mother to her children: Robert (Linda) Larsen of California, Donald (Vivian) Sanderson of Reno, NV, Charles Sanderson of Milwaukie, OR, Sharon Carver of South Bend, IN, Lawrence Sanderson of Milwaukie, OR, Lorraine (Bryan) Chojnacki of South Bend, IN, and Kenneth (Jacque) Sanderson of Tampa, FL. Her legacy extends to her grandchildren, David Larsen, Daniel Larsen, Joseph Carver, Chris (Renee) Chojnacki, Ken Chojnacki, Daniel Sanderson, Michael Sanderson, Megan Sanderson, Jennifer Sanderson, Donald Sanderson, and great grandchildren McKayla, McKenzie, Cameron, Abigail, Josephine and Noah all of whom carry forward the values she instilled in her family.
Throughout her life, Virginia found joy in her hobbies and interests, which highlighted her compassionate nature and commitment to community engagement. Her proudest accomplishments were rooted in her identity as a daughter of immigrants, a testament to resilience and dedication passed down through generations.
Virginia Sanderson will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her. Her strength, kindness, and commitment to family and community serve as an enduring example of a life well-lived. She has joined her beloved husband Donald, as well as her parents, Robert and Nellie Michalski, in eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will inspire many. Her remains will be laid to rest in South Bend Indiana at St. Joe Cemetery.
