Verne was born in Deerfield, KS and moved to Odessa, TX at a very young age. At age 10 he moved to Sheridan, Oregon where he lived until moving to Portland as an adult. Verne passed away peacefully 3/21/2012 at his home in Portland, OR. Born at the beginning of the dust bowl, Verne\u0027s family had to work hard for everything they earned. When Kansas was devastated by a series of dust storms, his family moved to Odessa to find work in the oil fields. Verne\u0027s earliest memories were of living in a tent while his Dad went to work every day to provide for his family. Verne never took for granted anything or anyone that he came in contact with. Verne was an avid bowler, having two 300 games to his name. His bowling groups were always an extension of his family, passing along that passion to his children. He also loved fishing, especially for Fall Chinook, hunting, woodworking and helping with youth sports. During the last several years, Verne would relax by sitting in his backyard and watching the various birds that lived in his tree houses and of course the hummingbirds that frequented the backyard. Verne was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Alice Hayzlett, brother Leroy, sister Maxine and his first wife of 42 years Marge. Verne is survived by his wife Cheri, children Jeff (Pat), Rebecca, Tim (Ginny), Debbie, stepsons Don (Kathy) and Kevin (Beatrice). Grandchildren Nicole, Jennifer, Andrea, Christopher, Aaron, Brian, Joe, Robert, Nicole, Emma, McKenzie, Kate, Peyton, Damon, Derek and Great Grandchildren Devon and Nicolas. In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to make a donation to the Milwaukie Bowl Junior Bowling Program in honor of Verne. 3056 SE Harrison, Milwaukie OR 97222.
