Vernabelle Pearl Swanson

May 22, 1921 — February 4, 2017

Vernabelle Pearl Swanson was born on May 22, 1921 in South Bend, Indiana to Isabelle and Vernon Jamison. She passed away peacefully on February 4, 2017 at the age of 95.

Vernabelle is survived by her daughter, Karen Robinson and son-in-law Randy Robinson; her son, Carl Lichtenbarger; and her sisters, Doris Pearcy and Mary Lou Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavone Swanson; and her brother, Wayne Jamison.

Vernabelle worked in a bank for 20 years in Palatine, Illinois. Lavone and Vernabelle then moved to Freeport, Illinois and, after retiring, she worked in the fabric/craft department at Walmart. After Lavone's death, Vernabelle moved out to Oregon to live near Karen and Randy in 1995.

Vernabelle loved the ocean and her favorite place to visit was Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock. She loved crafts, especially ones that included colorful fabric, ribbon, and buttons. She designed and created angel dolls that were made with hand sewn dresses and button legs and they were a delight to many. She also made Christmas pillows, stockings, gift bags, ornaments, and greeting cards. Vernabelle and Karen had fun participating and selling these handmade items at many local Christmas bazaars.

Vernabelle touched so many lives and cared for everyone she came in contact with. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by everyone who had a chance to know her.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Friendship Health Center, and a tremendous thank you to the Nursing and CNA staff on the second floor. Thank you for all the care and love you gave to Vernabelle.

Karen and Randy would also like to give a special thank you to Lyn, Chaplain Dave, and the Hospice Team at Serenity Hospice for providing care and comfort to Vernabelle in her final days.
