Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she moved west when she was 10 years old because of the mild climate in Oregon. They settled in Portland, OR. (Sellwood neighborhood). She attended Cleveland High School and met Don Buchanan from Benson High after graduation. They had three boys and resided in the same home for 27 years. Her free tiem was spent crocheting many afghans, which she still has. She was an avid salmon fisherwoman with two forty plus pound salmon to her credit. In later years, she enjoyed visiting with family and friends and taking trips to Hawaii and Disney World in Florida. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in memory of Velma to the Clackamas County Animal Shelter or to the Oregon Humane Society."",
