Tim-Pod-Dad-Grandpa
Tim Collins passed away from natural causes on March 7, 2023, at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas (Portland), Oregon.
Tim was born on August 21, 1943 and grew up in Connersville, Indiana with his parents, Oma (Richie) and Robert Emerson Collins, and brothers, Roy and Bill. Tim graduated from Connersville High School in the Class of 1961, then went on to earn a Bachelor's in Mathematics at Indiana University, a Master's degree in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a partial Master's in Business Administration.
He also met his future wife, Martha (Marti) Holt, at Indiana University when he was 20; she was only 17. They married a few years later in 1966 and were married for almost 57 years. They had two daughters, Kirsten (Mouton) and Eowyn (West).
Tim's career was in the computer software industry, including consulting for the Department of Defense, but his favorite project was when he worked on a spectrometer module for the International Space Station. Space and astronomy were always fascinations of his. He owned a telescope, passing that interest down to his daughter Kirsten. For many years Tim played chess in a league and was rated. He also enjoyed tennis when he was younger.
Tim (known as "Pod" to his daughters and many others) was a kind and gentle soul, a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. He had a huge soft spot for animals, especially cats (which he also passed down to his daughters). He loved sitting in his recliner with a cat on his lap, reading or watching TV - especially basketball (Go, Hoosiers!). He also enjoyed travel - around the U.S., Europe, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Tim is survived by his wife, Martha; daughters, Kirsten (Rodney Mouton) and Eowyn (Melinda West); four grandchildren, Grace, Russell, Parker, and Morgan; brother, John William (Bill) Collins; niece, Troy Anne Stoops, who has always been like a third daughter; niece, Marcia Collins; nephew, Matthew Collins; and his cat lap-buddy, Pippin.
The family will hold a small Celebration of Life for Tim-Pod-Dad-Grandpa on Saturday, March 11. Please contact Eowyn at
