Shirley Marie Smith went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2024, concluding a long and wonderful life. During her 94 years, she found great comfort in her Catholic faith. She was a fun loving and energetic mother and friend. Shirley enjoyed golfing, quilting, fishing, bridge and socializing with friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her five sons, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirley Marie Isaac was born in Portland, Oregon on June 29, 1930, to Leo and Alberta Isaac. She attended Madeline Grade School, Grant High School and Oregon State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Shirley married John C. (Jack) Smith on November 23, 1950. Jack and Shirley had five sons. They lived in Parkrose for seven years and Milwaukie for 43 years. Shirley worked for the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce for seven years. They spent many hours fishing for salmon on the Willamette River and at Garibaldi on Tillamook Bay. After retirement, Shirley and Jack spent winters in Arizona and enjoyed travelling abroad. Jack passed away in October 2001.
On November 18, 2006, Shirley married Richard McKnight in Sun City, Arizona. They enjoyed winters golfing in Arizona and summers with family in Oregon. Dick passed away in October 2016.
Shirley is survived by five sons, Michael (Jacki), Jerry (Jodi), Scott (Teresa), Patrick (Judy) and John, Jr.; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 100-year-old sister, Barbara Rex.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie, Oregon on August 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. Her cremated remains will be interred with Jack Smith at Willamette National Cemetery. Shirley requested donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
