Sharon Mae Ryan

Sharon Mae (Hoover) Ryan died at Willamette View Manor on Feb. 27, 2024. She was 85 years old. She was born in Portland, Oregon on May 8, 1938, to Oren Lee and Margot Lillian (nee-
Wogsberg) Hoover.

Sharon attended Franklin Primary, Creston Grade, and Franklin High Schools, graduating in the
class of 1955. Her childhood was spent in Southeast Portland near Foster and Powell Roads. She
remembered vegetable wagons and pony rides coming to the neighborhood. She grew up in the
Lutheran tradition, then as an adult United Methodist.

Sharon attended Oregon College of Education (Western Oregon University) for bachelor’s and
Master’s degrees. Other studies were completed at Portland State College (PS University) and Western Washington State College (WW University).

She was married on June 11, 1960, to Richard Roy Ryan. The marriage lasted almost 64 years until her passing.

Her teaching career in math and science began at Forest Grove High School. Next was Holy Child Academy in Oregon City and substituting around Clackamas County school districts. She was an intuitive math teacher able to solve math problems in her sleep.

Sharon lived in Portland, Canby, Oregon City and Gladstone, Oregon. For the past 10 years she
has lived at Willamette View Manor with her husband.

For over 30 years, she was a Girl Scout leader, a leader trainer, and a camp director. Sharon
became a Life Member in the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Sharon enjoyed many years of quilting for others. Her favorite vacation was camping at Mt. Rainier for the 4th of July. Additional camping was across Canada and the United States of America.

She is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Karen Ann (Ryan) Peterson and spouse Ronald Gary Peterson, and son Robert Andrew Ryan and spouse Celina Torres nee-Torres. Additional surviving family are her brother Raymond Lee Hoover and spouse Nancy Jane nee-Wilson, and brother Ronald Charles Hoover and spouse Annabelle Elizabeth nee-Lee. Sharon has 2 grandsons, Ryan Jerome Peterson, and Andrés Nehalem Ryan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Willamette United Methodist Church in West Linn on
April 6, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Donations to the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington are requested in lieu of flowers.
