Sandra Kaye Friday

May 20, 1944 — September 16, 2014

Sandra Kaye Friday (Sandy) was born on May 20, 1944. She passed away September 16, 2014 at Adventist Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Robert Lyle Friday Sr. and Marguerite Christina Friday, while Robert was serving in the Navy during World War II. The three member family (at that time) moved to Portland, Oregon where Sandy spent her entire life. In 1955, when Sandy was 11, a brother Rob was born, followed by two sisters; Dolores, 1958, and Valerie, 1960, which completed the Friday family. With the significant age difference between Sandy and her three siblings, she became like a second mom to them. Sandy graduated from David Douglas High School in 1962. Sandy worked for an insurance bureau for a few years after High School and then attended Beau Monde Beauty College, which she graduated from in 1967. After graduating from beauty school, Sandy worked for over 30 years as a hairdresser, the majority of those years at La Vons Beauty Salon. She eventually became the owner of La Vons. Upon retirement from full-time hairdressing, Sandy sold the salon and was hired by Portland Adventist Medical Center as a Pharmacy Technician, while continuing to do hairdressing part-time at home. Sandy was very artistic and enjoyed china painting, sewing and quilt making, gifting many beautiful art pieces to friends and family. She took great pride in taking care of her yard and home. Sandy loved animals and had several dogs and one cat over the years. She took in a rescued cat, Sweetie, and loved to spoil her. Sandy was preceded in death by her father Robert, and mother Margie. Sandy is survived by her brother Robert Jr. and sister-in-law Schelley of Tigard, sister Dolores and brother-in-law David of Covington, Washington, and sister Valerie Logan of Bocas del Toro, Panama. She also leaves two nephews, Alex Logan and Evan Friday, two nieces, Mallory Logan and Emily Ott and two great nephews, Harlan and Mason. Service will be held at Gable Funeral Chapel on October 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m."",
