Russ passed away on December 15, 2015 at age 67 after a long battle with bladder cancer. He was at home in Hermiston, Oregon surrounded by family.
Russ was born in Enid, Oklahoma in 1948. He moved to Portland, Oregon when he was 9 years old. He attended Duniway Elementary School, Cleveland High School and Clark College in the Portland area. Russ went into the Army in 1966 and served two tours in Vietnam between 1966 and 1972. In 1972 he married, Jacqueline L. Mitchell. While in the Army, they lived at Ft. Lewis, WA, Kitzingen, Germany from 1973 to 1976 and Chambersburg, PA from 1976 to 1977 where he was discharged. They returned to Oregon and lived in the Portland area until 2015 when they moved to Hermiston, OR. Russ worked for the United States Postal Service at the Main Post Office from 1988 until 2005 when he retired. Russ enjoyed fishing and baseball.
He is survived by his spouse, Jacky; six children, Cynthia Townsend, Jamie Carey, Stefani Palmore, David Miller, Anthony Miller and Kimberly Cummins; three grandchildren and his brothers, James Miller and Patrick Miller.
At his request, there will be no funeral. A Cemetery Service will be held with full military honors at Willamette National Cemetery on January 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend the honors ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Project Healing Waters, a non-profit that rehabilitates active duty and military veterans through fishing.
