On the evening of Friday, September 15, 2017, our much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was gathered into the loving arms of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. He passed away in the presence of his loving wife, Jean and the wonderful nurses and CNAs at the Madrona Grove nursing facility of Rose Villa Senior Living Community.
Richard was born in Santa Fe, NM on June 14, 1929 to Jim and Abbie Womelsduff. He was raised at the Los Alamos Ranch School (LARS), which was a college preparatory boarding school for high school boys, where his father was ranch foreman and his mother was the school dietitian. Richard's mother passed away when he was only 5 and his sister, Janet, was 7 months old. When LARS was closed due to the government needing this area for the Manhattan Project, his family moved to Santa Fe, NM where Richard attended high school.
Richard began working in Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM on June 19, 1947 and worked there until his retirement on January 31, 1988. During this time, Richard also served 4 years in the United States Air Force and in the Naval Reserve. After his retirement, he and his wife, Jean, whom he married in August of 1974, traveled in their 5th wheel trailer, which was their full-time home. They had many wonderful adventures together. They were just beginning one last long trip back east when ill health intervened and in April 1993, they moved into Rose Villa Senior Living Community in Oak Grove, OR, which had been in their plans, but not for another 5 years.
Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Janet. He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Gary (Stefani) of Edmonds, WA; daughters, Peggy Page of Stanwood, WA and Karen (Ron) Johnson of Edmonds, WA; 7 grandchildren, Laura Page, Christy (Braden) Koenigsberg, Rachel (Bryan) Gough, Nathan (Kathryn) Womelsduff, Emily Womelsduff, Kayla (Cameron) Sybertz, and Bryan (Bryauna) Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren, Ayden and Landon Womelsduff, Amelia and John Gough, James, Evelyn, Jonathan and Elizabeth Sybertz, Millie Koenigsberg, Mabbina and Ronan Womelsduff; and his sister Janet's children: niece Denise (Ted) Swendra and nephew, James (Rachael) Chambers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests in his memory:
