Raymond Francis Buckel

July 29, 1950 — March 23, 2014

Raymond Francis Buckel of Milwaukie passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 from Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) which was diagnosed less than one month ago.  In December 2012, Raymond was diagnosed with stage IV of a rare type of Non-Hodgkin's Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma.  He received eight rounds of R-CHOP chemotherapy and then an autologous stem cell transplant in May of 2013 and was in remission as of January 10, 2014.

Raymond was born in Chicago, Illinois to Mary L. (Tonne) and Gale J. Buckel.  The majority of his youth was spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he graduated from St. John the Baptist grade school.  As a freshman and sophomore in high school he attended St. Francis Seminary near Cincinnati, Ohio and then spent his junior year at Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne.  Raymond's family moved back to Chicago, where he spent his senior year and graduated from Holy Cross High School in Chicago in 1968.  In 1971, he married Barbara Boxberger in Chicago and together they had two sons, Philip and Kevin.  His beloved wife, Barbara passed away in 1980 of cancer.

Raymond's career in land surveying began in 1969, and he graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in land surveying in 1979.  Through Raymond's life he lived and worked in many states including: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Arizona, Texas, New Jersey and eventually landing in Oregon in 1988.  Since in Oregon, Raymond worked as a Project Surveyor at Robert E. Meyer Consultants, Inc., Survey Manager at Kampe Associates, Inc., Project Surveyor at W & H Pacific and a partner of TriLand Design Group, Inc.  He and his wife, Gina have co-owned and operated their land surveying consulting firm, Buckel Associates, Inc. since 2003.  Raymond held a professional surveying license in both Oregon and Washington.

Raymond and Gina met in 1998 through a mutual friend and it was a match made in heaven.  They were married on December 11, 1999 with their families in attendance.

Raymond had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family.  He loved the game of golf and playing with family and friends. He also spent his free time watching sports, working in his garden and taking long walks with the family dog "Q".

Raymond is survived by his wife, Gina C. (Venice) Buckel; sons, Philip J. Buckel and wife, Elizabeth of Anchorage, AK and Kevin M. Buckel of Portland; stepson, Kyle E. Corso of Portland; step-daughter, Amy Walker and husband, Rick of Vancouver, WA; his grandchildren, Maxwell A. Buckel of Anchorage, AK and Haley, Ericka, Draven and Emma Walker of Vancouver, WA; brothers, Paul Buckel and wife, Darlene of Mishawaka, IN, Gregory Buckel and wife, Betty of Fort Wayne, IN, John Buckel and wife, Sandra of Conneaut, OH; sister, Mary Richel and husband, Dennis of Portage, IN and 17 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Kaiser Permanente Palliative and Hospice Care Program.
