Phyllis Ann Olson

April 28, 1949 — November 11, 2014

Phyllis was born April 28, 1949 in Glendale CA to Phil & Lillian Roach.  The apple of her father's eye, she spent her youth in the San Fernando Valley, graduating from Canoga Park High School in 1967.  It was while waitressing at the Generous Britain and attending Pierce College that Phyllis met Jeffrey Olson.  The two married on July 4, 1970.  They moved to Washington the following year where they started their family.

Although Phyllis had only two children, she mothered many.   She would kind-heartedly take people under her wing, offering counsel, support, compassion and concern.  She loved to bake; if she made you her famous cheesecake or chocolate charlotte rousse, she considered you family.  And, if she made "spice cake" on April Fool's Day, she not only liked you, but also knew that you could appreciate her sense of humor; something that her extended family of 25 years at Fruit Valley Elementary School would attest to.

With Christmas being her favorite time of year, Phyllis was already looking forward to the holidays.  She delighted in decorating every inch of her house with garland and lights; soldiers and snowmen.  She simply loved sharing the holidays with her family.

Anyone that knew Phyllis would say that she was kind and generous yet stubborn and opinionated.  She lived life her way, each and every day.  When Jeff died in 2011 after more than 40 years of marriage, Phyllis was devastated, and her health steadily declined.   Despite her poor health, Phyllis declared that ultimately, it would be a broken heart that would cause her death.  Trying to balance diabetes and renal failure was difficult and debilitating.  The simplest tasks became tiring and laborious.  Nonetheless, she was fiercely independent.  Although she could no longer drive, she insisted on living at home, by herself, accepting assistance from only close family.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her older brother.  She is survived by son, Christopher Olson; daughter, Tracy Bevilacqua and husband, Tony; granddaughters, Jessica & Hannah and siblings, Sheryl Roach, Herbert Roach and Hubert Roach.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Fresenius - Salmon Creek, not only for the care provided to Phyllis, but also for the support provided to the family throughout this past year.  Josh, Jerry, Anna, Lynnelle, Andre, Sara, Justin and the countless others at Fresenius who have cared for Phyllis - You have given us the gift of extended time with our loved one, and we are eternally grateful.  She was, too, and she truly loved each of you.

Services celebrating Phyllis' life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23rd at Fruit Valley Elementary, 3410 NW Fruit Valley Rd, Vancouver, WA.
