Norman Maurice Kennedy was born April 25, 1927 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend, OR to Mr. and Mrs. Chester Kennedy of Madras, Oregon. He was married to his wife Louise of over 67 years. He was preceded in death by his older sister Sybil Specht of Tillamook and a younger sister Norma Adele Richardson of Madras. His grew up on the family cattle ranch on Hay Creek in Central Oregon near Madras. He attended a one room school for his first 5 years, riding his horse \u0026quot;Freckles\u0026quot; over 5 miles one way to school alone daily starting in first grade. No days off for rain, cold or snow. When he was 8, his grandfather got him his second horse named \u0026quot;Rocky\u0026quot; to help with cattle drives and round ups on weekends on the Kennedy, Bolter, Horigan and Cram family ranches. He helped his mother with a small milk, cream and egg business in Madras in the mornings and worked on the family ranch evenings and weekends. Working on the summer haying crews were also part of his work routine. His year round room was a canvass tent for several years in the back yard of the Kennedy ranch home. As an alumnus of Madras Grade School, he attended Madras Union High School, leaving home at 17, he graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland. He enrolled at Oregon State University but was drafted volunteered for the US Navy, serving in San Diego, San Francisco, Hawaii, Kwajalein and Guam. He attended Vanport College and OSU on the GI Bill and graduated in Agriculture and Business. He married Louise Claudia Smith of Portland, his grade and high school sweetheart of Portland, in 1948. Together they put each other through OSU. Norm will be remembered by many as the host for the OSU Portland Quarterback luncheon in the early 50\u0027s for several years; president of the OSU Dad\u0027s club a few years later and for his smile, wisdom filled and humorous e-mails his jokes and love of his many friends at the Multnomah Athletic Club where he and Louise were member since 1957. Norm served his St. Thomas/St. Mathews Episcopal church as a licensed challis bearer, vestry member and lay reader. Norm and his wife Louise developed, built and operated a twelve lane bowling establishment in Madras. He was president of the Central Oregon Insurance Underwriters association, president of the Oregon State Bowling Proprietors Association, and Manager for a Eugene insurance agency. He was an active private pilot for many years, a nonstop, active, non-forgiving care giver to his wife who has suffered Alzheimer\u0027s/Dementia for the last several years. He was a collegiate sigma Nu Fraternity member at OSU. He returned to Portland in 1979, starting a scratch insurance/securities brokerage where they could be near Louise\u0027s father. His successful insurance, property ownership and securities business continued. He endured several surgeries for two knee replacements, cancer and a pacemaker. He attributes his recoveries to his 7 days a week exercise with beloved friend and coach Joe Loprinzi. He attended many insurance/security marketing seminars including Purdue University, Louisiana State Marketing and The Wharton School of Finance. He received honors and worldwide travel awards from his management and production."",
