Nancy requested people wear cheerful colors, not black

Nancy Kay Conroy was born September 5, 1939 in Portland, Oregon to Telore and Dorothy (Moorhead) Abendroth; and spent most of her childhood with her five siblings in Taft, Oregon. She graduated from Caldwell High School in Idaho in 1957, and attended Lewis and Clark College and Portland Community College. She married Edward Conroy in 1959.

Nancy was a very active and motivated woman. She worked as a nurse for 50 years.  Midway through her career, she switched gears and trained at the Oregon Police Academy. While at the Academy, she outperformed the other cadets even though she was 40 years old, pregnant, and in a leg cast - graduating as the top cadet in her class.  She served as the first female police officer in Gladstone, Oregon for approximately ten years. Nancy also arranged a police officer exchange in Ireland, and served with a police department in Co. Galway, Ireland for 3 months. Eventually she left the police force and returned to full-time nursing. In 2005 she went to Louisiana to help with the recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina.

At the age of 50 Nancy took up competitive ice skating and competed in several competitions throughout the western United States. Nancy loved to travel, and visited Amsterdam, Germany, Hong Kong, Ecuador, Israel, as well as making 13 trips to Ireland!

Nancy was an active member of Clackamas Park Friends Church for 48 years and was proud to be a longtime member of Portland's Singing Christmas Tree.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Terry and Kent. She is survived by six children, Alan, Colleen, Shannon, Michael, Shaun and Keli; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Janet, Corinne, and Wendy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Portland's Singing Christmas Tree.

A Celebration of Life service will be held next August.  If you are interested in being notified of the date please send an email with your name and email address to CeeCeeFadden@gmail.com
