Mary Cecilia Cairns

Mary Cairns, 81, of West Linn, passed away unexpectedly on February 3 in Oregon City surrounded by her family. Mary Cecilia was the third of five children born in Portland to Dewey and Celia Minkel on June 18, 1935. She attended St. Andrew School and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1953. In 1956 she married Marvin Marshall, the father of her three children. Mary had a long and storied career in the insurance industry. She counted her colleagues among her closest friends and in fact her longest and dearest relationships began at work. In 1975 she married Don Cairns and spent many enjoyable years as his wife, companion and care giver. Mary enjoyed the good life, good books, good wine and good company. She loved to travel and see new places, decorate her home, and host parties for friends and family. Known to the younger generation as Grand Mary, she loved spending time with her five cherished grandchildren and their friends. Mary is preceded in death by her first husband Marvin Marshall and second husband Don Cairns, and her sisters Maxine Lemon and Lois Long. Mary is survived by her children, Sharon (Nils) Olson, Sally (Harry) Trimpler and Chris Marshall, her siblings, Leo Minkel and Margaret (Stan) Schmale, her grandchildren, Charles Olson, JohnNils Olson, Nathan Trimpler, Skyler Trimpler and Taylor Marshall and her nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 20, 11:00 A.M. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 806 NE Alberta Ave. in Portland. Arrangements are by Peake Funeral Chapel of Milwaukie."",
