Martha McKibben Hastings, aged 84 years, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Maker on Tuesday, October 11th. Martha was born July 3rd, 1927 in Chicago. She graduated from University High in Normal, Illinois before gaining her degree at Illinois State University at Normal. She married Howard Hastings in 1950. She then became a teacher before moving to Oregon in the early 50\u0027s, where she continued her career with the West Linn Public Schools. She earned her Master\u0027s Degree in Education from Lewis and Clark College. She retired from education in the 1980\u0027s. A long-term resident of West Linn, she raised a family of 3 sons and was an active member of Lake Oswego United Methodist Church. She became an officer of the United Methodist Women, sang in the Choir, and played in the Bell Choir. She also travelled extensively, living several years in the Northern Marianas Islands on Guam, travelling to Japan twice, to New Guinea, to Australia, and around the world in 1971. She recently retired to Milwaukie. Martha was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Henry, Sam, and Bill. She is survived by her husband Howard, sons Howard Elliott, Jeffrey, and Scott, Grandchildren Chad, Ben, Natalie, and Bethany, Great-grandchildren Daniel and Michael. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, November 12th, at the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church at 1:30.
