Marjorie M. Van Zante

Marge Morton Van Zante passed away on July 25, 2014 at the Springs at Clackamas Woods in Milwaukie. She was born October 4, 1922 in Rockford, Iowa to Guy and Gladys Morton.After graduating from Northern Iowa College with her teaching degree, she taught in several towns in Iowa.Marge met Dick Van Zante on a blind date in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then followed him to Oregon where they were married in 1953. They raised two sons together, Gerrit \u0026amp; Neal. Gerrit preceded her death. As a family they lived happily in the Garden Home area of Portland. After Dick\u0027s retirement, Dick and Marge moved to Milwaukie and wintered in Hemet, California where they enjoyed many beautiful years before establishing their latest years of retirement together in Milwaukie. The final chapter in Marge\u0027s life was spent in good hands in the caregiving environment at The Springs.Marge was a firm believer in peace and harmony in the world. She believed if all people had a better understanding of different races, nationality, language,religion and politics her beliefs could come true. She was always active in the Presbyterian Women\u0027s Association in both Multnomah and Milwaukie churches. Marge was also active for years in the Women United Intercultural Group. She even traveled to Russia with her group for their cause.Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and quilting. She showed her passion for these with many friends and groups throughout her life. She was a dedicated fan of her two grandsons and their sports and activities.Marge is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard (Dick Van Zante), her son Neal, two grandchildren, Nicholas \u0026amp; Jordan, and great granddaughter, Stella.The family wishes to thank each and every member of the caring staff at The Springs in Milwaukie who were so important to Marge in her final years.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Milwaukie Presbyterian Church located at 2416 SE Lake Rd.
