The Life of Marjie Jeanne Rouse
Marjie Jeanne Travillion was born on July 13, 1933 in Eugene, Oregon to Clifford and Ruth Travillion. She was the eldest of three children. She was named after her two aunts, Marjorie Travillion Brunton, her dad's sister and Jean Fors, her mom's sister. During her high school years, Marjie moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where she met her future husband, Bill, at a church youth group.
After Marjie graduated from Roseburg High School, she attended the University of Oregon, which began her life-long love of U of O sports, especially football and basketball. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in music. Her high school friend Bill had joined the Navy a few years before; while Marjie was in Eugene at college, she wrote a letter to him on the prompting of her mother. I am sure her mom said something along the lines of "it would be good to hear from a friend back home." A long-distance romance began. Fast forward to September 18, 1955, and they were married at the First Baptist Church in Eugene, Oregon. After Bill was discharged from the Navy, they made their home in Eugene. Steve was born in 1956, followed by Bob in 1958, Lori in 1962 and Dan in 1970. Marjie was a stay at home mom for most of their married life. She directed children's choirs at several churches, sang in ladies quartets, and taught piano lessons to many students, including her own children.
Bill's work for Carnation Company and other employers took them to Spokane, Washington, Fresno, California, San Diego, California and eventually to Portland, Oregon in 1980. Marjie worked for the North Clackamas School District from 1986 to 1998 at Owen Sabin Skills Center as a secretary.
Marjie loved music and sang in many different church choirs. She also started the Joysong Children's Choir at Milwaukie First Baptist in the early 80's. In addition, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, and reading but mostly spending lots of time with her family.
Marjie is survived by her brother, Wayne; her four children and their spouses; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren (with two more on the way!)
