Marion Rogelstad passed away peacefully at the age of 89.
Marion was born in 1934 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Leonard Fred and Augusta Peterson. She moved to Portland, Oregon with her family in 1944.
Marion graduated from Franklin High School in 1951 then went to Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, where she met her soul mate. Marion was married to Wallace Rogelstad in 1955 following their graduation. After 57 years of marriage, Wally passed away in 2012.
Marion and Wally spent four years in Washougal, Washington, one year in Boston, Massachusetts, one year in New Mexico, and the rest in Milwaukie and Gladstone, Oregon. Marion spent her earlier years raising three kids and working as a substitute teacher. She later worked as a full-time 3rd-4th grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary. She retired from teaching in 1992 at the age of 58.
Marion and Wally were world travelers in their retirement. Making it to every continent, traveling and then documenting and building picture books of their travels was their passion. Their other passion was being involved in church. Marion was a member of Milwaukie Lutheran Church since 1965 until her death. When their children were high school age, they loved having foreign exchange students and hosted 4 youth.
Marion is survived by her three children, Lavonne (Rudi) Blanco, Doug (Theresa) Rogelstad, and David (Suzanne) Rogelstad. In addition, they had 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Marion is to be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 4, 2024, at Milwaukie Lutheran Church.
