Marguerite Rose "Margie" Ogden

September 27, 1940 — December 23, 2024

Rev. Marguerite Rose "Margie" (Selden, Eggleton) Ogden, beloved mother, pastor, and teacher, born in Buffalo, NY to William and Dorothy (Bell) Selden, passed away peacefully December 23, 2024, at her home in Clackamas. A resident of Oregon since 2001, Margie’s faith was a central guiding principle throughout her life. She was an active leader at Kenmore Baptist Church in NY and later at Brighton Community Church as well as leadership positions in the American Baptist’s area and state. A proud graduate of Kenmore West High School (Class of 1958), she earned her BA from Eastern Baptist College in 1962, where she studied music ministry and performed with the touring choir.

Margie began her teaching in the Ken-Ton School District, her Masters at SUNY Buffalo. From 1974 to 1996, she taught English at Williamsville East and South High Schools, inspiring students along the way. Margie was one who spoke out for justice, celebrated diversity, and was known for challenging the status quo.

After her retirement from teaching, Margie realized a lifelong dream by becoming an ordained pastor in the American Baptist Churches in the USA. She and her husband Jim co-pastored in Niagara Falls and Sanborn, NY. In 2001, they both retired to Milwaukie, Oregon, where they were active in the Kairos-Milwaukie United Church of Christ. Margie served for a time as President of the American Baptist Women of Oregon, sang in the choir, led a weekly women’s Bible study, rallied support for the regional youth camping program, and preached on occasion.

Margie and Jim’s retirement years were filled with the joy of travel, including more than a dozen cross country road trips to visit scattered children and grandchildren.

In Margie’s final years, they resided at the Miramont Pointe Senior Living Facility in Clackamas, Oregon. An esteemed community member there, she participated in various clubs and helped lead the Dining Room Committee.

Margie is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Dr. R. James Ogden; sons from her first husband (Philip Eggleton d.1982): Matthew Eggleton (Tamela White), Ronald Eggleton (Dana Monday); brother, Ken Selden (Katie Selden). She cherished her grandchildren: Erica (Eggleton) Bergeson, Anna Eggleton, and Audrey Eggleton. Margie was also a devoted stepmother for 31 years to Jonquil Ogden, Juliette (Ogden) West, Kaija Comin, Mac Heller-Ogden, and their children: Jobie West, Sam West, Jane Heller-Ogden, and Peter Heller-Ogden. Margie’s legacy of faith, education, and love will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
