She grew up in Chisholm and Montgomery, Alabama and Brunswick and Savannah, Georgia. She married Gerald Louis Wilson January 2, 1949. They had 2 children, Craig and Lana. She fell in love with Dick Ouimette and was blessed with her fifth child, Thad. In Santa Barbara she worked at the Flight Line Cafe at the airport in Goleta, The Blue Ox, and Sambo's. In Portland, she worked at Stuart Anderson's Cattle Co.

In 1978, at the age of 48, having raised 4, with one still at home, she got her Associate Arts degree in Accounting. She worked in Houston, Texas for the Steiners and also in San Bernardino, California. She then settled in Montgomery, Alabama working with her daughter for her brother, Jake, at Coosada Enterprises until 1992 when she returned to Oregon to retire.
