Lester Dean Ashton, 81, died of pulmonary fibrosis on May 14, 2015, at his home.
Les is survived by his wife, Mary Gertrude (McCall) Ashton of sixty-one years; his children, Elizabeth Brock and her husband, Donald, Steven and his wife, Debra, Donna Spurlock, Judy Boyle and her husband, John; his sisters, Viola Brown and Betty Trabert; his nine grandchildren, Katherine, Joshua, Leroy, Nicholas, Benjamin, Mary, James, Ruth, Daniel and his seven great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Jillian, Melissa, Anthony, Debra, Jacob, and Rylan. Les is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Leigh Spurlock; his parents, Edward and Elizabeth Ashton and four siblings.
Lester was born on May 1, 1934 in Rupert, Idaho. He graduated from Paul High School, Northwest University, and Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He served in the Idaho National Guard and the United States Air Force. He was employed by General Electric, Univac-Sperry-Rand, Portland Rescue Mission, ADP, served as the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Alturas, California, and volunteered with the Nursing Home Ministries.
Les was born again in Christ in 1971. From that moment on Les was a new man who was constantly being changed by God's grace. Les continually sought to yield his life to the in-dwelling Holy Spirit and point others to the redeeming power and new life in Christ. No matter what obstacles confronted him for the remainder of his time in this body, Les recognized God's divine work and yielded to His leading.
