Leo V. Welch passed away at his residence on December 14, 2015. He was 92.
Mr. Welch was born in Medford, Oregon on January 15, 1923 and attended high school in Sweet Home, OR where he was very active in student affairs and sports, graduating in 1941 as Valedictorian of his class. Then he attended the University of Oregon.
In 1942 he married Lela Lucille Horner, a high school classmate. Shortly after, he enlisted in the US Army and then later served in the Army Air Force until his discharge in November 1945.
In 1947 he and his family moved to Milwaukie, OR and he became employed as an accountant by Kelley-Clarke, Inc., a West Coast food brokerage firm, and continued his work there until his retirement in 1984. In 1994 he and his wife moved to Oregon City.
During his life he was an active member of the Christian Church and served as a leader in the Milwaukie congregation in many capacities. He was also a long-time member of The Gideons International. For ten years he served as Scoutmaster/Explorer Advisor of Boy Scout Troop/Explorer Post No. 143 which was sponsored by his church.
During his life he had many interests including traveling, camping, rockhounding, sports, woodworking, genealogy research, etc.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of 73 years; son, Kenneth of West Linn; daughter, Judith Baker of Beaverton; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
