Lela Lucille Welch of Beaverton passed away at St. Vincent's Hospital on April 14, 2016. She was 92. A memorial service will be held at the Milwaukie Christian Church on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 PM.
Born Lela Lucille Horner in Sweet Home, Oregon on August 23, 1923, she went by her middle name Lucille. She attended Sweet Home High School, graduating in 1941.
She married Leo V. Welch, a high school classmate, in November 1942. During World War II she followed the deployment of her Army husband, living in Seattle WA, Boise ID and Topeka KS. Her son Kenneth was born in Boise in 1944.
The family moved to Milwaukie, Oregon in 1947, where daughter Judith was born. Lucille began working for Portland General Electric Company in 1953 as an administrative secretary and continued until her retirement in 1982. She and Leo moved to Oregon City in 1994 and lived there for 19 years. Then, they moved to Beaverton and lived there until their passing.
During her life Lucille was an active member of the Christian Church and served the Milwaukie congregation in several capacities. After her retirement from PGE, Lucille joined a ladies' Bible study group which met during the daytime. She loved reading and studying God's Word. She had many interests including reading, cooking, sewing/knitting, traveling, rock hounding and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years. She is survived by son, Kenneth of West Linn; daughter, Judith Baker of Beaverton; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in the River View Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
