LeJoy Gere, 75, a resident of Milwaukie, died early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2011 at the Providence Milwaukie Hospital. LeJoy was born December 12, 1935 in Wenatchee, Washington to J.D. Leslie and Effie Erskine. She was the second to the youngest of eleven children. In 1953 she graduated from Wenatchee High School. LeJoy was united in marriage to Robert Gere in 1953. They celebrated fifty-nine years of life together and raised seven children. They spent several years in the Wenatchee area, moved to Los Angeles for a short time before they moved to the Portland area in 1960. LeJoy worked with Bob in the family appliance repair business. LeJoy enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting. LeJoy was adored by her family and would make trips up to Wenatchee to visit relatives and friends. LeJoy worked at Petco for several years where she loved working. She was preceded in death by five of her siblings. She is survived by her husband Bob Gere, their children, Elva Norton, Brad Gere, Julie Gere, Floyd Gere, Elaine Kvanvig, Linda Gere, and Charlene Thomas,four brothers; Don, Paul, Darryl, and Garr, one sister, Dixie as well as 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. The family requested the remembrances be contributions made to Peake Funeral Chapel to help cover the expenses of the service. LeJoy had recently had both chemo and radiation treatments which left her family with many unexpected expenses. You may call or email the funeral home to make a contribution.
