Kermit Craig York

July 17, 1947 — February 27, 2024

Kermit Craig York passed away at home February 27, 2024, at the age of seventy-six, with his family by his side. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, & best friend.

He was born July 17, 1947, in Portland, Oregon, to Clyde Harrison York and Shirley Ann York.

Kermit lived on the east coast as a child and moved back to Oregon as a teenager. He attended Marshall high school, where he made lifelong friends.

He later served in the Marine Corps, with his two best friends from 1966-1970. He spent one year of his time serving in Vietnam.

As soon as he finished, he drove to Mexico and married his wife, Ayde, on October 24, 1970. They had three children and adopted two of Ayde’s brothers.

Kermit supported Ayde in going to college and starting her own business (Amiguitos Preschool). He participated in planning, remodeling, and building both schools. He always made sure things worked and that everything was in good order.

He was a man full of jokes; whether they were good or not, it was what he loved. Kermit often spent his time fixing anything he could get his hands on, playing Yahtzee with his sons, or taking walks with his wife and dog, Little Bit ‘L.B.’

Kermit spent countless weekends on the Oregon coast with his grandchildren. He did anything and everything with them like watching movies, driving them on fun vacations, and of course, telling grandpa jokes.

He loved Ayde’s cooking. He was always excited and ready for a fresh scone and coffee in the morning. He would cook his steaks until they burned and enjoyed summer family dinners out on the deck.

Kermit was a truck driver for Coca-Cola and Pacific Coast Fruit. He had a lifelong career with no accidents. He retired at the age of sixty-two and later, when Ayde retired, they became snowbirds from Oregon to Arizona. They both enjoyed the sun, hiking, and making new friends.

He will always be loved and missed. Kermit is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ayde; sons, Gregorio (Laura) Manzano, Guillermo (Carmen) Manzano, Alex (Melissa) York, Eric York, Casey (Naoko) York; grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Celebration of Life will be at 4:30pm, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas, Oregon.
