Kent Edwin Van Meter, 66, of Gladstone, Oregon, passed away on October 17, 2024.
Kent was born on December 10, 1957, to Byron and Ruth Van Meter in St. Francis, Kansas. He grew up on his family’s ranch in Idalia, Colorado. He graduated from Idalia High School and went on to study telecommunications and made a lifelong career with those skills.
In 1979, Kent moved to Oregon and met Terri Emerson. The two went on to have two daughters, Stefanie Jean and Kendra Lynn.
Later, Kent made his way back to the Midwest, going back to the family farm, followed by some years in Sheridan, Wyoming, a place he loved very much. He came back to Oregon just in time to welcome his first grandchild. He settled down and bought a home in Gladstone to watch his 7 grandchildren grow up.
Kent enjoyed watching football, a true fan of his favorite team, the Denver Broncos. He never missed a televised game. He loved music and concerts.
Kent is preceded in death by his father, Byron “Duke” Van Meter; mother, Ruth Van Meter; brother, Bruce Van Meter; sister, Peggy Jo Van Meter; and son-in-law, Leo Tackett IV. He is survived by his good friend and ex-wife, Terri Van Meter; daughter, Stefanie Tackett; daughter and son-in-law, Kendra and Wade Fish; and grandchildren, Wally, Carter, Summer, Kaiden, Makenzie, Grace, and Owen; as well as many friends and family.
