Kathryn Caroline Steininger, 86, a resident of the Gladstone community died Saturday morning, July 30, 2011 at her home of natural causes. Private Cremation Rites have been held and Inurnment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at a later date. Kathryn Caroline Steininger was born September 7, 1924 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Emil and Gladys C. Samson Olson. She was raised in Minnesota until the late 1930\u0027s when her family moved to Mollalla, Oregon. It was there that she graduated from high school in 1942. Kathryn was united in marriage to Elmer Laverne Steininger on August 22, 1946 in Vancouver, Washington. Together they raised three children and celebrated fifty-four years of life together before he preceded her in death on March 9, 2001. Kathryn was a busy wife and homemaker as well as working several different occasions at the Meier \u0026amp; Frank Store in Portland. Her personal interests included working on her roses in the yard, making greeting cards and collecting all things \u0026quot;Scottie Dog\u0026quot;. She and Elmer had a couple of Scottie dogs over the years, the most recent being \u0026quot;Trampus\u0026quot;. He was a constant source of entertainment. She enjoyed going camping with Elmer, traveling all around the state and to California as well as a vacation cruise to Alaska. Most recently, she traveled to Hawaii, Georgia and Alaska to visit grandchildren. She also attended three of her grandchildren\u0027s weddings. Kathryn moved to Sommerset Lodge where she made many good friends. In 2007 she fell and broke her hip. Kathryn was determined to move back to her beloved home. She amazed her family and friends with her hard work to get where she wanted to be. Kathryn was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Califf. Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Alan and JoAnn Steininger of Juneau, Alaska, two daughters and sons in law; Beverly and Steve Wilkinson of Citrus Heights, California, and Cynthia and Bradley Dodson of Milwaukie, Oregon. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren; Rachel, Greta, Neil, David, Andi, JJ, Erin, and Whitney, six great grandchildren; Gavin, Caroline, Lily, Clark, Cooper, and Shea, as well as her many good friends at Sommerset Lodge. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions made to the American Heart Association, in her memory. Services have been entrusted to Peake Funeral Chapel, 503-654-7755."",
