Katherine "Jean" Lundell

Katherine Jean Lundell was the oldest of two children born to Marvin C. and Gladys L. Hopkins. Katherine went by her middle name Jean and was born February 2, 1935, in the home of her maternal grandparents on View Acres Road in Milwaukie, Oregon. Family circumstances caused Jean, brother, Robert, and mother, Gladys, to live with her maternal grandparents, Ben and Carrie Corp. Jean attended Concord Grade School, and graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1953. During high school she worked as a "soda jerk" at Perry's Pharmacy.
In her young adult life, Jean took an interest in many different activities. Classes in fencing, Hula dance, pottery throwing, skiing, and swimming fueled her interest in exploring life. After high school she entered the working world. She worked downtown for a large insurance firm; where she would develop lifelong friendships. She also worked in a physician's office where she learned to performed simple procedures with patients.
In 1957, through a mutual friend, she met William (Bill) Lundell. They were wed Sept. 10th 1961. The newlyweds built a home across the road from where Jean grew up. She lived her entire life on View Acres Road. Jean and Bill had three children, David, Diane and Darin. She was a homemaker and took a very active role in her children's lives and interests; from Room Mother, Girl Scout leader and 4H leader. As her children grew, Jean started exploring other interests for herself, spinning and weaving classes, quilting, traveling with Bill, and a return to the working world. Jean enjoyed her travels with Bill, ship reunions from Bill's Navy Service, Alaska and Panama Canal cruises, a trip to China, and numerous visits to Hawaii to visit daughter, Diane and their first grandchild. Jean loved to see new places.
Jean is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill; their children, David (Tammy), Diane, and Darin (Kari); three grandchildren, Levi, Kari, and Seth; two great-grandchildren, Finn and Ruby; and two sisters, Millie and Carolyn.
