Karen V. Sims, 65, died peacefully April 5, 2017 at Legacy Hopewell House, after battling lung cancer. Born April 7, 1951, in Salem, Oregon, Karen was the daughter of Dale M. and Alice B. Sims.
Learning to ride at an early age, Karen thoroughly enjoyed horseback riding and camping. Participating in community affairs, attending performing arts events, and spending time with family and friends gave her great joy.
Karen had a big, giving heart - and opened her home to many in need. In addition, she also provided a daycare environment for her grandchildren.
After raising three children, Karen returned to college, achieving her degree in substance abuse counseling and working in that field until her retirement.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Eboni Carmicle and Lisa Carmicle; sons, Jahmal Carmicle and Joshua Carmicle; her beloved grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and close friends.
