Joyce Niedermeyer Harlan, 89, passed away in Milwaukie, Oregon, her home of 59 years. Born to Otto and Nellie (Hake) Niedermeyer, in Medford, Joyce grew up outside Jacksonville and earned a fine arts degree in 1948 from the University of Oregon. In 1948, Joyce married Dale Harlan. They were married for 25 years. Joyce raised their four children and was an active member of the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church, the League of Women Voters, and the Democratic Party of Oregon. She taught at Estacada Elementary 1974-1989. Joyce enjoyed downhill skiing, camping, swimming and golfing, and loved to travel, garden, read and listen to music, particularly opera. Joyce is survived by her partner, Richard Schwartz; her children, Janice (Gabe), David (Mary Ellen), Jim (Lise) and Nancy (Chris); her sister Charlotte, her brother Richard; and her grandchildren, Dana, Will, Colin, Ned and Anna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting or any organization that supports the arts. A memorial service honoring Joyce\u0027s life will be held 11:30-2:30, Monday, September 8 at the Museum of the Oregon Territory, 211 Tumwater Drive, Oregon City, OR."",
