Josephine McKie Griffith Culbertson was a great wife, mother, sister and one tough cookie. She was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener, loved her walks and long drives.
She was born April 9, 1937 to H.T. and Josephine (Pegues) Griffith in Cleveland, Mississippi. She attended All Saints' Episcopal School and Delta State College. While teaching high school in Gulfport, MS she met USAF Lt. Earle Culbertson at a Halloween party. They were married 90 days later. January 30, 2014 would have been their 54th anniversary. As an Air Force wife she successfully met and overcame a multitude of challenges that those in civilian life could never imagine. In the 20 years they were in the Air Force, they had 12 different homes. Jo immediately made a real home for her family in each.
Jo is survived by her husband, Earle Culbertson; son, Scott Culbertson; daughter, Suzi Culbertson Miller; siblings, Claudia Mitchell, Mimi Robb, Hiram Griffith and Nicky Griffith; and grandchildren, Garrett Miller and Connor Miller.
Jo worked in Real Estate for 33 years at Sun Tree Realty and Hasson Realtors, where she made many life-long friends in both those with whom she worked and her clients. Jo and Earle were truly partners in life and she made each day special for all those around her. She fought tenaciously and gracefully to the end, and is now enjoying the rest she deserves.
