John Leo Weakland of Portland, OR, passed away June 17, 2023, at the age of 98. He was born in Pennsylvania to Leo John and Ella Weakland on April 1, 1925.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Leona Lockett. After retiring from the Portland Post Office, John managed his aging years with grace and dignity. He wanted to spend as much time with his wife. The night before he passed Leona was at his side & they prayed together. On his final day he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in this world.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Weakland; sons, Dan Weakland, Jeff Weakland, and Andy Weakland; daughters, Joan Batcheller and Mary Smith; sister, Ciel; 16 grandkids and 27 great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his children, John Weakland Jr. and Terry Weakland.
Dad and mom were married 76 loving years. He was a light in this world & now we need to continue shining his light by carrying it with us in our own lives. Rest in peace, Dad...
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12pm Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie, Oregon. Reconvene at 2:30pm for a cemetery service with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
