John C. Verdieck

April 19, 1909 — May 11, 2010

John Verdieck was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on April 19, 1909. He spent his early life on a farm. His family moved to Oregon when he was sixteen. John graduated from Salem High School with honors in 1928. He was given the Joseph H. Albert Award for outstanding achievement in the commercial department same year he was employed by Portland General Electric Company as a line materials stores clerk. After 45 enjoyable years with the company he retired as an accounting executive in July of 1973. On November 12, 1933 John married Thelma Patterson. They lived and enjoyed 70 years of marriage in Portland. He had an active life serving his family, his church and the community. At First Baptist Church in Portland he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, and as a director on the Foundation Board. He kept the financial records of the Board for 30 years. He also gave many days of volunteer service on the property maintenance committee at our American Baptist Camp Arrah Wanna at Welches\u0027, Oregon. After his retirement in 1973 John and Thelma moved to Rose Villa, a retirement community. He continued an active life by serving his fellow retirees. Wood working was one of his hobbies and he enjoyed making things for people. He also served on the Rose Villa Foundation Board for many years. He assisted in keeping the financial records. He is survived by his daughter, Claudia Papagolos of Portland, by his son, Rodger Verdieck of California by two grandchildren, Peter Verdieck and Julie Perkins of Portland, and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma in 2003. A memorial service will be held in the fellowship room at Rose Villa 13505 SE River Rd. Milwaukie, Oregon on Thursday May 20, 2010 @ 10:00am Remembrances in memory of John may be made directly to First Baptist Church Foundation or the Rose Villa Foundation Endowment Fund or sent c/o Peake Funeral Chapel."",
