John died at home Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the age of 88. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, grandfather, and brother.
He was born September 17, 1934, to John and Lola (Bishop) Sheldahl. In 1949, the family moved to Oregon. John graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1952. He went on to receive a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Oregon State University in 1957.
John was employed by the company Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in Camden, New Jersey, where he developed the main combat radio for the U.S. Department of Defense. He designed the communication system for NASA's space shuttle, along with a tracking system for the Trident missile program. After retiring from RCA, John moved back to Oregon in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Kern) Sheldahl who died in 2000.
John is survived by his son, John Sheldahl; grandsons, Alexander, and Christopher Sheldahl; and brother, Baron Sheldahl.
