Janet Amelia Wagstaff was born to Ruth and Harold Wagstaff in SE Portland where she played tennis on her backyard clay court and at Mt. Scott Park. She graduated from Franklin High School and was awarded a BA in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 1943. She reported for the Astoria Budget until the end of the war and then worked for The Oregon Journal until she married in 1947. She met her husband, Lee G. Squier, on a ski bus. Throughout their 66 years together, they were active with the Trails Club of Oregon, climbing early on and continuing to ski, hike and camp into her later years. As \u0027do-it-yourselfers,\u0027 they built their home at the top of Thiessen Hill in, then, rural Clackamas County while raising their 5 children. Her many civic activities included Scouting, PTA, League of Women Voters, the Oregon Symphony Auxiliary, a quilting group, supporting public schools, serving as an elections precinct chair and fund raising for the American Field Service exchange student program. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Portland, for 65 years where her numerous activities ranged from working in the nursery and the feeding program to helping resettle refugees from Cambodia and Russia. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Wagstaff, and sister, Constance Savage. She is survived by her husband; sons Roger (Margot), Orinda, CA; Kirk, Sun Valley, ID; Jonathan, Portland; daughters Rebecca Knudeson (Kim), Tigard; Cornelia Schadler (Cliff), Sequim, WA; 5 grandchildren; nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Portland, on November 17 at 12:30. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Oregon Food Bank. The family is grateful for the care she received at Rose Villa in her last years."",
