James Edward Mcdonald

September 10, 1930 — May 25, 2024

Jim McDonald passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024. He was 93.

Jim was born September 10, 1930, in Portland, and lived in the area his whole life. Jim worked as a project manager and purchaser for Lord Brothers Construction, and as a Real Estate Agent for a time; but most of his career, starting in 1949, was with the Southern Pacific railroad. That’s where he met his wife, Sally. They married in 1952 and were together for 67 years until Sally’s passing in 2019. They built a home and raised their wonderful family in te Ardenwald neighborhood of Milwaukie. Jim was so many things to so many people -- a little league coach, a volunteer booster at Milwaukie High school, and even a champion couples’ dancer on roller skates at Oaks Park!

But Jim will be remembered by most as the head of an amazing, large, loving family that will miss him greatly. He leaves his immediate family of four children, Tim, David, and Pat McDonald and Teri Tuomi; plus, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren! He is also survived by his sisters, Marylou Compton, and Shirley Brownback. He also leaves an extended family, Sandi Creel, Shannon Mattin, Cherie Wallace and Tom Wittfoth.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday June 10th at 11:00am at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, 3810 SE Lake Rd, Milwaukie, OR 97222. Memorials may be given in Jim’s name to the Milwaukie Lutheran Church.
