Harold Chagnon was born on a farm near Miami, Florida on March 30, 1933. As a young boy he worked in a grocery store, but as a young man he fulfilled his dream and joined the US Air Force. Stationed in Japan, he loved the country and learned a little Japanese.
Later in life he moved to Oregon and lived in a boarding house in the Oregon City area, where he bought a motorcycle and met his future wife to be, Marlen. After they married, they joined a Motorcyle Club. Harold did a little racing at Aurora. As time passed, he wanted and did buy a Cessna Airplane and later a 53 foot boat. He and Marlen did lots of boating on the river and a trip to Canada and back. But the best of life was their airplane. They flew to Canada, the Oregon Coast, Reno (for the Air Show) and one time while flying in mixed weather they flew through a rainbow.
Harold's heart and soul was in the air - even when the strokes stopped the talking and thinking Harold was in the clouds!
A funeral service and reception will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Stehn Family Chapels Milwaukie Tribute Center, Milwaukie, Oregon.
