Gertrude was born in Nampa, ID, second youngest of seven children to Frank and Katherine Kliever. They moved to Dallas, OR when she was young, where she grew up on a dairy farm. After graduating from high school in Dallas she married, Donald W. Duty on September 5, 1942 and they moved to Milwaukie, OR. She worked for Zell Brothers Jewelers in Portland, OR for many years.
Gertrude enjoyed sewing and was a quilter and seamstress. Over the years she made over 100 quilts and gave them to her family and friends. She was very social and enjoyed visiting often with friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Daryl of Milwaukie, Pamela Reed of Portland, Bryan of Milwaukie and Ryck of Minneapolis, MN and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.
No service will be held at her request. Private inurnment with her husband will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
