Monroe Street, Phone 503-659-1300 Married Martha \u0026quot;Jean\u0026quot; Austin DeWitt August 27, 1977 Survivors include his wife, Jean; son Bob Drowley and wife Holly of Henderson NV; daughter Dawn Watson of San Diego CA; stepson Mike DeWitt and wife Carol, Gresham OR; and stepdaughter Kari Brooks of Milwaukie OR; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and special friends. George\u0027s favorite activities were fishing, camping and spending time with relatives and friends. He joined the U. S. Coast Guard in September 1942 serving through March 1946. His career was varied, starting as a member of the Lebanon and Eugene, OR police departments. He then moved to Portland where he worked for Lyman Slack for several years. From there he moved to California, becoming a deputy sheriff for Riverside County in Indio. During that time he also moonlighted as a funeral home ambulance driver. Later he owned and operated Valley Ambulance; and finished that part of his career as a coroner investigator for Riverside County. In 1973 George turned to long- haul trucking, driving for North American Van Lines; NorPac; and CastnerTrucking where he completed his \u0026quot;truckin\u0027 days.\u0026quot; In retirement, he enjoyed spending time at Paradise Cove on the Oregon Coast and traveling \u0026quot;south\u0026quot; to California and Arizona for the winters.
