Douglas C. Stowell passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024. His family had visited him throughout the day.
He was born in Portland, Oregon on August 14, 1940, to Frank and Mary Stowell. He grew up in St. Johns with sisters Patsy, Sharon, and brother Monte, where he was known by his nickname “Buster.” Doug joined the Air Force after High School and was a mechanic in Newfoundland. After his honorable discharge, he worked at Freightliner, Hanna Car Wash Systems and Curtis Trailers.
He met Louise Logan in 1959, and they were married on December 8, 1962. They started their family when their oldest son Dwayne was born in 1963. Their second son Don was born in 1965. During these years, they enjoyed their time surrounded by friends (Carol, Jay, Marianne, Ginny) while living in an apartment on NE Couch Street. In 1972, Doug and Louise bought a house in Milwaukie, Oregon with Doug’s GI Bill, and in 1973, they had their daughter Amber.
After many happy decades in Milwaukie, Louise passed away in 2009. Years later, he reconnected with longtime friend Carol Myhron, and they started several years of companionship and many games of Scrabble and Cribbage until his passing. After he retired, he loved sitting on his porch and watching the world go by.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and wife Louise. He is survived by his brother Monte (Judy) Stowell; children Dwayne Stowell, Don (Shannon) Stowell, Amber (Nick) Stowell; and grandchildren Logan, Maddie, Henry, Abigale & Samantha.
A service is planned at a future date at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. In remembrance, please donate to your favorite charity.
