Douglas V. Remmick

May 1, 1931 — June 2, 2018

Doug Remmick was born in Streeter, North Dakota, and moved with his family to Portland when he was 12 years old. He graduated from University of Oregon with a degree in business in 1958. In 1967, he launched his own business, Doug Remmick/Northwest Stone, and over the next four decades he supplied natural building stone to homes and businesses all over the Northwest, including the World Forestry Center, the High Desert Museum, Skamania Lodge, the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center, and many more. He loved working closely with architects and sharing his vast knowledge about natural stone. He was proud of the three houses he built, including the one his family lived in for 54 years, and his beloved cabin located at Salishan. When he wasn't working, he was doing projects around the property, usually accompanied by one of a long line of family dogs, or horseback riding on mountain trails with his children. He loved spending time at the coast. He was always ready for a party, and sooner or later would pull out his ukulele and have everyone singing.

Active until the end, Doug passed away from injuries sustained in a fall. He is survived by his wife, Sally; four children, Robin (Ross), Guy (Donna), Danna (John), and Jill (Mike); three grandchildren, Eric (Melissa), Jamie (Matt), and Travis (Julia); three sisters, DeElda, Delphine, and Joyce; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Delton.

Doug was privately laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery on June 7th. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., June 14, 2018 at Leach Botanical Garden**, 6704 SE 122nd Ave, Portland.
