Doug Allen lived a long adventurous life. He would have been 90 next month. He joined the US Navy from 1951 to 1955. He then served with the US Civil service on merchant ships from 1961 to 1965 as a cook in the Galley. Then continued working many jobs. Most notably, a sheet metal worker where he was known as the "Tin Man".
In 1967, he started the journey of a single father, and he raised three boys and one girl until he met Betty Lou, the love of his life. They married in 1971 and he helped raise her three daughters as well. Douglas always kept his family going with his adventurous side. He loved camping, fishing, thrift store shopping and garage sales. He loved to laugh and joke and made friends with everyone. If you were lucky enough to be in front of him at the grocery store, he would talk with you and make you laugh.
For the past 10 years he was in an assisted living home, but still kept the staff there on their toes with his jokes. He loved God and his family. Rest In Peace. Til we meet again.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou in 2014. He is survived by their children, Bruce (Val) Allen, Brian (Debra) Allen, Roberta (Dave) Patterson, Vicki (Phil) Allen-Huizinga, Sheryl Cantrall, David Allen, and Lori Cantrall; 13 grandkids, 25 great-grandkids, and 4 great-great-grandkids.
A Cemetery Service with Full Military Honors will be 10:30 AM, Monday, February 12, 2024, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
