David J. Downs

October 2, 1961 — September 7, 2017

David James Downs of Milwaukie, Oregon passed away on September 7, 2017.  David was born on October 2, 1961 in Portland Oregon to James and Alice Downs.  He was preceded in death by his father. He was often heard telling his parents with a chuckle that "I am the best kid you ever had" although this fact was often disputed by his older brother and younger sister.

David lived in Milwaukie his entire life and loved his community.  He was the third generation to attend Milwaukie Elementary and third generation at Milwaukie High School where he graduated in 1980.  He was an active student, participating in football, wrestling, and music programs. After high school Dave attended University of Portland and Clackamas Community College.

David's love of his family was his priority; his love of his daughters was evident to anyone that met him.  As his daughters attended his alma mater, MHS, he went to every dance performance, band concert, and sporting event that they participated in.  He volunteered every year to help with homecoming floats even after his daughters graduated.  Dave also loved Friday night football at the high school and was always ready to cheer on the Mustangs.

Dave was born with a love of all things mechanical.  He loved taking things apart and putting them back in working order.  His brother Ted loves to share the story of 7-year old Dave driving Ted's car from the top of Where Else Lane home while his brother rode his newly purchased motorcycle behind him.  David worked for Kodiak Pacific Construction for the past 20 years and had many opportunities and challenges working with large road construction equipment.  He was an integral part of the success of Kodiak Pacific.  His love of mechanical tinkering continued through his life and there are many stories of equipment tossed out as trash that was restored to working order with Dave's talent.  "If one man's trash is another man's treasure, then he was the richest man in the county".

David was also a member of the Beaver Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America.  He loved Ford products and his Tudor Model A was his pride and joy.  He attended many tours, parades and a few weddings sharing his love of the Model A.

David is survived by his wife, Krista; his beloved daughters, Kelsey Jane, Kathryn Rose, and Emily Anne; as well as his mother, Alice Downs; his brother, Ted Downs; his sister, Melanie Phillips; and his many nephews and nieces.
