Connie S. Vail

Constance "Connie" Louise Sabin Vail passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015 at her Somerset Assisted Living home in Gladstone, OR. Her son, daughter-in-law and brother were with her.
Connie was born August 6, 1939 in Somerset, PA to George A. Sabin and Helen V. Custer. She spent her childhood there enjoying the delights of a small town with grandparents and cousins close by. She attended grade school and graduated from Somerset High School. She ventured to Pittsburgh, PA, where she earned a degree in Business.
In the 1960's the family moved to Glendale, CA where she put her business education to good use. She started as a clerk with ATT and rose to Management. She retired from ATT after 30 years. They offered her a job as a Consultant that required her to travel California and several other states to present classes to Engineers. She truly enjoyed that hectic schedule and was in San Francisco when they had one of their famous earthquakes. Not her favorite experience.
Connie married William "Bill" Vail and they had a son, David Bruce Vail. They settled in the city of Orange, CA. Connie set a wonderful table for Christmas or Thanksgiving where the family enjoyed silly conversations and remembered the good ole days back in Pennsylvania.
Her retirement years were filled with taking cruises with her dear friends and going on outings with the Red Hat Ladies! She especially enjoyed her last visit to a casino in Oregon where Dave and Carla took her for the day. She got to see the little back roads of Oregon that reminded her of her childhood. She volunteered with the 2nd grade at a neighborhood school for many years. She spoiled those children and they loved to give her hugs. She always took them "goodies".
Connie is survived by her son, David B. and his wife, Carla; her brothers, Michael Sabin and wife, Bonnie and David Sabin and wife, Tina; sisters, Susan Hirsch and husband, Sam and Ann Sabin; grandchildren, Corey and Leslie; niece, Michelle Brady; nephew, D.G. Sabin; great-nephews, Dominick and Devin and great-niece, Nicole. She has many cousins that live in the Pennsylvania area.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, grandparents and her greatly loved Aunt Janie Custer, Uncle Jimmy Custer and his wife, Vivian and Uncle Bobby Custer and Lois.
The family would like to thank the staff at Somerset Assisted Living and the Hospice Team from Seventh Day Adventists. They were a blessing that we won't ever forget!

At Connie's request there will be no formal service. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22nd at Somerset County Memorial Park, Somerset, PA.
