Celebrating the Life of
Cleo James Hester
Cleo was born February 9th 1947 to Ethel and Warren Hester. He was the oldest of seven children. He grew up in Kinloch, MO and also lived in Portland, OR for a short time. He attained his GED and joined the Navy in 1965. After leaving the Navy in 1966 due to an injury he moved to Indianapolis, IN with his family. He married Sheila Hester and lived in Indianapolis until 1976. He worked as a machinist at Peerless pump from 1966 to 1975. Cleo moved back to Portland, OR in 1976 and started his career with Portland Community College. He retired from PCC in 2006.
Cleo loved to travel and just riding. He enjoyed taking his family to Six Flags Amusement Park, driving, and his time with the Masons (as he was a member from 1975 to 2006). Cleo also loved music and going dancing. Everyone always commented about his smile and laughter. Cleo found a new love in the beach. He purchased a time share at the Rock Away Beach Resort and would visit there as much as he could. He shared the love of the beach with his new wife Trisha. Cleo became a lover of cats late in life and absolutely loved his cat Rosie who he called his baby. She was adopted by a good friend of his.
Cleo was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Hester; father, Warren Hester; mother, Ethel Hester and his wife, Trisha Rice. He is survived by his sons, Carlton Hester and wife, Cindy, Cleo Hester and wife, Josie, Corey Hester and spouse, Shauna Helmer, Tre Hester and Paris Heart-Hester; his brothers, Donnie Hester, Dennis Hester, John Hester; sisters, Gail Stevens and Janette Montgomery; cousin, Jacqueline Hodge; ex-wife, Sheila Hester; grandchildren, Cyril Hester, Camille Hester, Chloe Hester, and Shandra Hester; and great-grandchildren, Brycen Millet and Finnley Ernes.
In October Cleo was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He fought as long as he could. He made sure he did things in his own way and enjoyed the last of his time with all of his family, talking and listening to his favorite music on his record player.
He is loved by all and he will be missed. He will be forever in the hearts of all of his family who love him. Rest in peace, with our Love.
